Several years ago, while indulging in social media, I kept seeing posts about Essential Oils in my feed. My interest in them was piqued and, since I had grown up using chiropractic, homeopathy, and herbal remedies, the idea of using essential oils seemed pretty natural to me. Before investing in a variety of oils, I wanted to know more about them and I started researching EOs. I learned of their marvelous healing properties and numerous other uses, the amazing processes used to obtain them, the intoxicating aromas and soon began this new love affair!
I didn’t know where to start but I knew I was already hooked on EOs and had to try them. I was confused about where to buy them. I wanted to make sure I was getting pure high-quality oils but couldn’t afford to make a huge investment. I wanted to try a few without breaking the bank; investing in a starter kit from one of the online companies seemed to be a good value so that’s what I did! When it arrived in the mail, giddy like a child at Christmas, I opened it. I took everything out of the box and looked at it all in awe. I was excited but didn’t know where to start at first. After all I had just spent almost a car payment on these little bottles of oils and didn’t want to waste or make a mistake with them.
So, where did I start? I started small. I was already committed to reducing the use of toxic chemicals in my home and since EOs have antibacterial and antifungal properties, they seemed like a great alternative to some of the mainstream products we used daily. Toxic dryer sheets were the first to go! I got some wool dryer balls and started using EOs to scent my clothes in the dryer. Easy peasy! I hadn’t given up any of my favorite products, I didn’t have to make any major daily routine changes, and bam!, I had taken the first step towards using EOs in my daily life. I not only reduced the amount of toxins my family and I were being exposed to, but the bonus was that my clothes smelled like I just frolicked through a lavender field in the south of France!
It was so easy, I wanted to do more! Before I knew it, my passion for using essential oils only grew deeper and came with lots of (expensive) trial and error trying to incorporate EOs into my everyday life effectively and efficiently. But, eventually I was making everything from laundry detergent and cleaning products to bug spray, and body butter, facial serums and soaps - all using my essential oils instead of chemicals! I honestly can’t remember the last time I stepped foot in a commercial pharmacy or went down those aisles at the grocery store! I was having fun making effective and natural products, which are definitely a better alternative to chemicals. But, it can be very time consuming!
Fast forward a few years and I turned this love affair into a labor of love and opened Pure Vita Modern Apothecary Studio on Route 6 in Eastham, MA. I wanted to make using essential oils fun, easy, accessible and affordable for everyone. Now, anyone can benefit from my trial and error adventures in making natural and effective home and body products.
